Aryn Michelle – A Modest Star

I first met Aryn over a year ago on the Indi music site Sellaband, and immediately I fell in love with her music. As artists do on that site, she introduced herself on my wall (similar as friends would do on your Facebook profile), so I went to her artists page to have a listen and instantly became a believer.

Aryn developed a love of music at a young and at 15, she was already writing her own songs.  A graduate of Southwestern University and Berklee, the time she has dedicate to her craft and her post secondary education in music alone, gives her every right to have more of a star frame of mind.

In March of this year, Aryn became one of a select few to reach a funding target of $50,000 on Sellaband, which gives fans the ability to fully fund albums of musicians they ‘believe’ in. This new album is due out in spring of 2011, and will be her second Indi album.

Not to mention many music awards and nominations, 6 demos preceeded her first Indi album. This girl has been around for awhile and there is not a question in my mind, that we will be seeing alot more of Aryn for many years to come.

Personally, I own Lockless Heart (which is available on iTunes and CDBaby), and I also invested in her Sellaband project so sometime this coming spring, her latest creation will arrive at my door.

In always wanting to stay in touch with her fans, keeping them informed, and making them feel like they are truly involved in her music, from time to time she throws a new tune at us that is either a finished product, or something in the works she would like us to give her feedback on.

In her December newsletter, Aryn provides a link to a Christmas song she ‘whipped’ together. Her description of how the song came to be, is just one more example of this talented Texan’s modesty. A woman whose voice, song writing abililities, and dedication to her craft and her fans, is surely about to pay off one day very soon.

Experience: Check.
Talent: Check.
Everything else you look for in a star: Check.

With how hectic the holidays can be all on their own, and with Aryn also very busy preparing to hit the studios in the new year, she put a basic chord progression together, grabbed a bunch of lyrics from many of her favorite holiday classics, and threw this little tune together. What she doesn’t admit to, is how beautiful that ‘simple piano progression is’, and how wonderfully and masterfully, she pieced together the words to this song. Her voice is mesmerizing on any given day, but it also has an especially warm and comforting tone during the holiday season. In being simple, she has created a catchy, spirited little tune, that will certainly be added to my Christmas listening collection. Right there next to one of my favorite holiday voices, Trisha Yearwood.

You can have a listen to and download, Merry Christmas Again, on her website. ArynMichelle.com. But don’t stop there. There is a long list of her other tracks also available to listen to and purchase from the above link. The little  are tracks that can be downloaded for free. Don’t be surprised if you spend well over an hour browsing and listening to the music of Aryn Michelle. Believe me when I say this, it will be an hour well spent.

Thanks for the link, Diane. I will go now and check it out. She is involved in so many great projects, and did so many collaborations while on Sellaband too. She is very involved and so diverse. Did you ever here her Chick-fil-a (Spelling), jingle she did? It was quite fun (and funny). :) She has a couple of more ‘dance’ type videos as well that are fun and show the endless possibilities to the types of songs she can produce and perform. I am a big fan of Jazz so the tracks she does that lean a little more to that side, are especially fun for me. She did a collab with Jessica G (another SAB artist), awhile back called ‘Fall to You’. It never had a lot of hits but it should have.

i love what beleivers such as yourself and Sommersby and the like, are doing to support these wonderful artists. I believe they all call you Wolfy. :) The radio station coverage is awesome. I would love to hear your Pack more often on our local radio. We have a great indie rock station here in Hamilton, ON Canada called Indi 101. http://www.indifm.ca/. They play a lot of local talent, but are very open to other Indi selections from around the world. Thanks for your comment and I look forward to more great Pack members reaching their goals and realizing their dreams.

    Cheers,
    Lawrence

She certainly does, Tracy. Glad you enjoyed. There are so many other great talents on that site too. The Jeffersons, Epyllion, and Angie Arsenault are a few Canucks who have reached their funding goals. The Jeffersons is the only CD I have not recieved yet but it should be at my door soon. It’s rewarding being able to help these artists in any small way, watch their music develop from the moment they join Sellaband, to the finished product in your hands. If you love music, this site becomes a bit of an adiction. :S

Lawrence, I fully agree with you. I’m just amazed with her voice and quality of her lyrics. She is very talented. She has produced a couple of music videos for our agency related to child labor. Check out our website to see “Childhood Left Behind” and “The Harvest.” Through her thoughtful words and music she produced a message that helps to bring understanding about the issue through the medium of music. You can find her music videos on http://www.endchildlabor.org. She is truly an amazing artist!!!

Nicely written piece Lawrence! As another one of Aryn’s fans/believers and investors in her Sellaband music project, I was particularly impressed with Aryn’s knowledge of music and her professionalism.

I, like you, am very optimistic about Aryn’s musical future. When you combine that much talent, with her wonderful vocals, stellar work ethic, and high standards…it’s a recipe for a superstar!

For those who don’t know, I have invested in a number of artists on Sellaband and these artists have since become known as “The Pack”. Well, something wonderful happened last month. An FM Radio station in the Netherlands known as “Radio Enkhuizen”, started playing music by “The Pack” artists during their Friday evening shows and just two weeks back, they started featuring one pack artist with each show. They started with Lori Greco, tomorrow, it will be Gisel de Marco, and next month…it will be Aryn Michelle’s time in the spotlight.

Additionally, they will be playing Christmas songs by these amazing artists and I just sent them 4 originals and 2 covers by Aryn. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot of Aryn’s Christmas songs on that radio station. The broadcast begins at 21:00 CET/3 PM EST/12 PM PST and if anyone reading this post would like to catch some of Aryn’s Christmas songs, tune in to http://www.radioenkhuizen.nl/ tomorrow.

Thank you for this wonderful post Lawrence. Aryn has always been a superstar in my book!
